Kim Jones will launch a signature label for fall 2027, produced predominantly in Japan with leather goods made in Italy, and will open his first store at Central Yards in Hong Kong in October 2027.
The initial distribution model is direct-to-consumer: the collection lands exclusively on the designer's own website, kimjones.com, in mid-2027 before the Hong Kong retail debut follows. The brand then plans to expand with further stores across Asia and distribution through selected retail partners — a phased channel strategy that keeps early margins and customer data in-house before wholesale exposure begins.
For sourcing professionals, the production footprint is the most concrete signal in the announcement. Japan as the primary manufacturing base positions the label in the high-quality, higher-cost tier of Asian apparel capacity, while Italian leather goods suppliers anchor the accessories offer in Europe's established leather districts. Jones described the collection as designed with "versatility at its core" and a "considered" price point, aiming to deliver a "broader wardrobe unrestricted by traditional categories."
That positioning sits somewhere between luxury and contemporary, and the choice of Japanese manufacturing suggests the label will not compete on price. No volume targets, factory partners or certification details have been disclosed.
What does the timeline look like?
The launch schedule is tight but staged:
- Fall 2027: first collection, predominantly made in Japan, leather goods from Italy
- Mid-2027: exclusive launch on kimjones.com
- October 2027: first store opens at Central Yards in Hong Kong
- Beyond: additional stores planned across Asia, plus selected wholesale partners
Jones confirmed the move in a statement. "After many years working with incredible houses and collaborators, it feels like the right moment to do something under my own name again," he said. "This brings together the things I've always interested in — fashion, art and design — and gives me the space to work with people I admire and explore new ideas. I'm excited about what comes next."
Why Asia-first?
The Hong Kong store and Asia-led rollout follow commercial logic from Jones's most recent corporate role. During his seven-year tenure as artistic director of Dior Men, a large part of sales came from the region, and he has spent the period since leaving Dior in early 2025 building relationships there.
Projects since his departure include a sustainability-leaning capsule with luxury hospitality group Aman, a collaboration with Chinese electric carmaker Avatr, and the Areal premium line launched with Chinese down outerwear specialist Bosideng — a partnership that gave him direct working experience with one of China's largest outerwear manufacturers.
Jones has been explicit about the regional bet. "I just think Asia's got the pulse at the moment. I think it's an Asian century," he told WWD last year. He added that he loves "the people, the food, the culture" of the region.
How firm are the plans?
The label, the launch window and the Hong Kong location are announced intentions rather than confirmed openings — no leases signed or production orders placed have been disclosed. Jones first hinted at the collection last December during the WWD x SJ Global Fashion and Business Conference in Hong Kong, hosted in partnership with the Hong Kong Fashion Council, which suggests the project has been in development for at least several months.
What remains unknown is the backing structure. The announcement does not specify who is financing the venture, the size of the initial order book with Japanese factories, or whether the Italian leather goods will come from suppliers Jones worked with at Dior or at Fendi, where he also served as artistic director of womenswear and couture until late 2024.
For vendors, the project represents a new, mid-scale luxury client entering the market in roughly 18 months — one whose founder has deep relationships across European luxury supply chains and, increasingly, Chinese and Japanese manufacturing partners.
Whether the label can convert a designer's regional following into a standalone direct-to-consumer business will become clearer when the first collection and the kimjones.com storefront go live in mid-2027.
