Rock & Roll Denim will open its first retail store, a 2,100-square-foot space at Fort Worth Stockyards Station, with a soft opening planned for January 2027 and a full opening in March or April.
The move takes the contemporary Western denim brand, owned by Fort Worth-based Westmoor Manufacturing, out of wholesale and into direct-to-consumer (sales through the brand's own channel rather than third-party retailers) for the first time. Westmoor, which also produces Panhandle Slim, marks its 80th anniversary this year and ranks among the oldest family-owned apparel companies in the United States.
The timing is deliberate. The brand has built momentum through collaborations with country rocker Koe Wetzel and rodeo champion Rocker Steiner, plus wardrobe placements on Taylor Sheridan's series "Landman." Those licensing and placement deals generated visibility. The store converts that visibility into a physical touchpoint.
What does the store mean for Westmoor's wholesale model?
President Jamison Hochster framed the opening as demand generation for existing accounts, not channel competition. "For 80 years, we've built our reputation on quality, authenticity, and a passion for the Western lifestyle," Hochster said. "The more people experience our brand here, the more they'll look for it everywhere they shop."
That claim deserves scrutiny. Brands opening flagship stores routinely argue the sites lift wholesale sell-through (the share of inventory retailers actually sell). The press announcement offers no data on expected traffic, conversion targets or store economics. Nothing in the release specifies the retail partners Westmoor expects to benefit, whether Boot Barn, Cavender's or others. Buyers will want evidence, not assertion.
Hochster added: "For the first time, we get to tell our brand story in our own words, in a way that's authentic and impactful."
The subtext is control. Until now, Rock & Roll Denim's story has lived on other retailers' floors. A branded store gives Westmoor margin capture (the difference between wholesale and retail price) on at least a sliver of volume, plus full control of presentation. The release does not say whether the store will carry Panhandle Slim or Westmoor's other lines.
Why the Stockyards location matters
Site selection is the strongest strategic element here. The Stockyards, once livestock pens, now functions as a Western retail hub with 20 shops and restaurants. Anchors include Ariat, Boot Barn, Cavender's, Lucchese and Maverick Fine Western Wear. Rock & Roll Denim will sit in a district where its exact target shopper already walks, alongside direct competitors and complementary brands.
That cuts both ways. Foot traffic is proven; the district hosted a Western version of Fashion Week in September. But the tenant mix means price and product comparisons happen within steps. A first-time retailer faces seasoned operators with mature store formats. The release does not disclose lease terms, buildout costs or who funds the fit-out.
For sourcing teams, one detail stands out: Westmoor is a manufacturer-operator. Unlike licensor-led brands that open stores through franchise partners, Westmoor appears to run the store itself. The announcement does not clarify staffing plans or whether the location will double as a showroom for wholesale buyers, a common dual function for first stores.
What is confirmed versus announced
Confirmed:
- The store will open at Stockyards Station in spring 2027.
- The footprint is 2,100 square feet.
- Soft opening in January, full opening in March or April.
- Westmoor turns 80 this year.
Announced intentions, not yet verifiable:
- That the store will "drive demand" for retail partners. No baseline metrics were provided.
- That momentum from collaborations and "Landman" placements will translate into store traffic. No sales figures for the collaborations were disclosed.
What comes next
Watch the January 2027 soft opening for early signals: assortment breadth, price architecture versus the brand's wholesale pricing, and any Panhandle Slim presence on the floor. If the store performs, expect Westmoor to weigh additional locations or an e-commerce expansion; if not, the Stockyards site becomes a costly brand showcase rather than a growth channel.
